I'm really searching for some ysb-12 manuals. I've purchased the pdf'd versions from Torrenson they are truly illegible, It's time to service the engine and I'd love to get my hands on actual manuals...

You should be able to purchase a soft cover printed version for the YS_ 12
from Torrenson. I purchased one about five years ago.

I would return it. And complain. I got my Universal manual from marineengine.com. It is printed perfect but it is a little different from my actual engine. Torrenson marine has a manual for my engine but it has a different part number than the one I bought. ie. I have a Oberdorfer raw water pump that is not in my manual, but it is in the Torrenson manual. Go figure. But try marineengine.com. Manual cost me 30 bucks.
