2019 was one of my best years sailing for several reasons:
I learned a lot.
I replaced my winches, clutches and traveller.
I sailed over 35 times this summer on my own boat-mostly singlehand.
I raced for the first time in over 15 years with some new friends on their boat and had a blast doing it-I am looking forward to more racing in 2020!
And as always I enjoyed camaraderie of the SBO community-you folks are awesome!

Since you asked, it was another great year on the bay for us. The last couple of years I've posted an annual YouTube highlight video with at least a photo or video clip from almost every sail for guests we've had on board to watch and see their trips. Link to this year's is below if anyone wants to check it out.
We were down a little in the number of times we sailed and guests we had aboard. Mostly because the captain was out of action for several months with a broken leg. We have a guest log for people to sign as "payment" to go on the boat, even try to get the regulars to sign it every trip. If you don't have a guest log, I highly recommend it, we get some great comments and it's always fun to reread every now and then.

Happy new year and smooth sailing in 2020 to everyone!

Thanks @Bill19233 for making want to sail tomorrow, unfortunately I only have about five months before my boat goes back in the water....

Was a first full year at SSS. Fantastic club. Wish i could have volunteered more and sailed with strangers.

Spent about 6 weeks in repairs. Lucky to go out about twice a month. Yesterday capped off a great adventure of 12 mph winds with 20 mph gusts. Had both sons with me. We all got burned but at the same time, we got the 170 up on full plane when the gusts hit, oldest son is laying on the leeward bench, youngest hanging over the railing trying to touch the bay, and im sitting on the railing pumping the main, We were flying. It was like a log ride when the wind stopped with the boat plowing back to sanity.

My electric motor died so were all in with sailing only to get off and back onto the dock.

Last Spring I found out how woefully undertooled I was when my transmission lost all forward locomotion in Punto Chivato, Baja California Sur, Sea of Cortez.

A friend towed me 6 hours back to Santa Rosalia where we spent 11 days diagnosing and awaiting parts from the U.S.
Met a bunch of great people who'd give you the shirt off their backs.

In day-sailing before then, we had always ran the engine as little as possible, out of the marina and past the rocks to where we could raise sails ASAP.

But after that marathon engine usage out there, I'm upgrading the tool kit. I think a new mainsail's in order too, right after the new bottom paint.

Boats...!

Our oldest son and daughter-in-law at a new opening at Disneyworld staying awake all night for a ride to galaxies far far away. His father and mother stayed awake all night sailing those waters looking at galaxies far far away. Both following childhood dreams navigating by the stars, no regrets.

Hope you and everyone else get to race and sail all we want in 2020.
We have a big race series the next five Saturdays, GBCA Icicle Rum Race series and Judge Smails Regatta. Hope we have good weather and we're able to sail in all of them. Usually over 50 boats on the bay for these races. This Saturday's forecast is looking good, 60's, 10 to 15.
