Year around sailing

Here in Nevada we sail year around. The summers get a little warm, 110 or so, but the fall and spring are the best. The Lake Mead Sailing Club schedule overnighters on some of the coves in January. The advantage is that almost no one else is on the lake and we build a huge bon fires, swap lies and drink a little grog. It does get cold here,in the 30's at times but most of the time it warms up to the mid 50's. I've sailed here looking up at the snow line on the mountains and it was truly spectacular. The other advantage is that the jet skiers wouldn't dare come out during the winter and that alone makes it all worth the chill in the air. After moving from Colorado Nevada is truly great.....NO SNOW! John Ericson 30 "Gypsy Woman"

It's not so much the air temp...

John, it's great that you get to sail 12 months through. Interesting that you bring up the fact that those fossil fuelers don't come out in the winter. There is a reason for that. A good reason. And it's not because the air temp is in the 30's. Maybe you should consider following that rule.

Question for John "Gypsy Woman"

John, are you racing this weekend? I had the Santana 20 and raced a couple races with you guys last spring, had a great time. (Except for the day you had to tow me in). Now have a 1988 Hunter 23, but I cannot find crew for this weekend to race. I'll probably just sail Sun by myself and spectate.

sounds kinda kewl

Wow, I've never thought of sailing Lake Mead, especially in the winter, sounds like it actually might be lush. Being a born and bred Florida boy I can't help but think about bugs, heat and humidity (with a hurricane here and there to keep us on out toes) but your view of the snow capped mountains has peaked my interest. I'm sitting here imagining what it looks like and find my self a bit fascinated (did I spell that correctly?) Enjoy your world, it sounds like a special place.
