Just about every town in the USA over pop 10000 has an "injector shop" that will test and rebuild injectors, injector pumps, etc. .... and most probably your 'diesel distributor' sends most their 'repairs' to these shops. Just about ALL the 'auto/truck stealerships' do.

I believe the Yanmar "MASTER" DISTRIBUTOR for Maryland is MackBoring in NJ.

You can also sometimes find parts for the YSE8 on ebay. I bought a starter, at 1/3rd price, that has worked great for 3 years.

I just looked up Torreson, and found that they no longer list the YSE8. I'm pretty sure they will still have some parts, though. You will need to call them or Mack Boring to find out.

i took the engine apart. i found a blowed head gasket. the valve clearance on intake valve had very little clearance. the rod looked strait and the bearings looked good. hummm.

Rich H-When I rebuilt my engine I didn't bench test it because I was so sure it would be fine. It wouldn't start after I got it in the boat. I took the injector to 2 different shops and they couldn't test it. They both said they didn't have the adapters to mount it to the jig, too old. One guy said he hit the roller with a rubber mallet and it looks like it should at least run the engine. In the end all I had to do was properly bleed the lines. It starts and runs perfectly.

OCBEW-If you are doing all this, then the engine is as apart as it's going to get. If you don't want to ever mess with this engine(internal block components) again, go ahead and get a cylinder sleeve and a piston with the rings already on it. I didn't rebuild my injector pump or the injector on the head. I planned on doing it later but as long as it runs well I am not going to change anything. These can be done after the fact IF needed.
You say you are going to redo the bearings, so you mean the main bearings, wrist pin bearing and rod bearing?
One warning about the wrist pin bearing. They are impossible for a lay person to align, difficult for a shop to align unless they have a fixture to do so specifically for your engine. Have it measured and if it's in tolerance, just replace the wrist pin and leave the bearing in place in the rod. I highly recommend getting oversized main bearings and have the shaft ground to match. If you find a good engine shop, the cost is very cheap to do this. Also as I mentioned before just have a shop press those main bearings in. They have to have them inserted before they can match them to the shaft anyway.

I had a shop assemble with new valve guides and valves and grind the valves, press the bearings in and polish the crank shaft to match. I did the rest.
I assembled the engine with antiseize on all gaskets except the head gasket. I have no leaks after two years.
That's what a ysm 12 looks like exploded on the floor.

so who did you buy your parts from ..........

regards

woody
I bought them from a retail distributor called Blue Water Ship Store in Corpus Christi. They sold them at MSRP. they are now out of business. Customer service was not very good. I hated having to go in there. The employees were just kind of rude also. I saw the manager of that store working at another parts store on the island where my boat is now. and a girl that was there is at west marine. I hope they get trained better at the places they are now. West may be high in price but no one can say they aren't customer oriented.
