Just an update to the previous post on the topic.thanks Guy's for all your interest and helpful tips.They were really apreciated.
The solution to the problem was the fuel pump.
When disassembled it was obvious that it was the issue. Corrosion and gummy sh@#.
One hundred and forty two Canadian dollars and we are back in buisiness.
Now lets see how it sails!

You did change the oil right? Just checking, making sure your crank case oil isn't full of fuel.

Sounds like you may have both water and algae/fungus in your old fuel. Now that you've replaced the fuel pump, make sure you know how your old fuel may have gotten contaminated and that it won't happen again with the new or rebuilt fuel pump. Start by sucking a pint of fuel out your tank into a clear glass jar. Once it settles, hold it up to the light and see if looks pure and clear with nothing doing the backstroke in it, and no lines of separation between water and fuel.

A little remembered source of water in fuel is the fill cap. Many older plastic caps crack - they're easy and cheap to replace through Catalina Direct. The reason the plastic caps became "popular" is that Catalina used an unusual deck fill assembly, so that you couldn't simply buy a stainless cap, you had to replace the whole fill assembly which was a pain. Even if you have a stainless cap, the O ring may dry out.

The fill cap O ring was the culprit. That was changed first.
The tank was drained completely, and a new raycor filter system was installed, as well as new fuel lines.
I did take the advice of others though, and changed from a 2 micron primary, to a 10 micron.The secondary is still a 2 micron.
This filter upgrade makes so much sense, now I can see if there is water, and I can change the filter, without standing on my head, with the mattress on my back, in the dark, with my tongue poking out the left side of my mouth.
