My Hunter 295 has a yanmar 2gm20f. She runs great until I come back to the dock after runing her for a while. She stalls at as soon as I throttle down. The fuel is perfect (i have polishing system) and I have new injectors. I think that is might have to do with the throttle cable. Does anyone have any experience with a similar issue? Please advise

Cables can stretch over time. I've found the simplest solution is to adjust the fuel stop adjustment. If the cable stretches too much when even that won't work, you need a new cable.

weinie, I answered "conceptually" not engine specific. I forget what engine you have. The Universals have the governors inside the starboard forward section of the engine with two 90 degree opposed screws on top of the housing. I would never mess with the governor, but those screws are easy to deal with. The M25 TRACTOR model manual discusses and shows the governor pretty well, page 23 here: http://www.c34.org/manuals/ServiceManual.pdf Remember, these are the guts and for information only! I wouldn't mess with them. The screws on the top are the ones I mean. I've poked around through various manuals and can't specifically find it, sorry.

On the Yanmar 2GM20F engine, I think that the idle speed should be about 900 RPM - at least 700 RPM. Check the RPM when you throttle down and see what it is. If it's lower that that, then check manual for setting it higher. I have a owners manual and a service manual, but they are both domn on the boat.

I have her idling at around 1200. She idles perfect on startup but a bit high do to the setting. Only after running for about 40 min does she not hold idle. I guess i could disconnect throttle cable and see how she idles?

Mark, a sign of not holding idle could be from a stretched cable, but is most usually due to the friction screw inside the steering pedestal needing to be tightened. If you have an Edson wheel, their website has some very good maintenance material. www.edsonmarine.com
