Lately my yanmar SB8 on a Hunter 27 1978 is hard to start. I press the ignition button and all that happens is a 'click' for the first 4 or 5 times. Eventually it turns over, sometimes with the help of a battery booster. The marine battery in place was replaced this spring and it has a 1000 cranking amps so I don't think it is a battery problem. A friend suggested it may be the 'cylinoid' (likely misspelled) but I he is unsure. Any ideas out there, Thanks

SOLENOID

Steve, The first thing I would try is take off, clean, and tighten all electrical connections. I think the solenoid is part of the starter. I will check my manual when I get home this afternoon. Bryon Thomas "Shore Leave"

Yes

The soleniod is the smaller portion of the starter. If cleaning the connections does not help, email me and I can send the procedure to ohm check the solenoid. Inside it is a copper disk that makes contact between the two large posts. This disk may be worn or corroded.+ Bryon bthomasail at earthlink dot net
