Does anyone else have a Yanmar SB8 which failed to operate because the Governor Lever Spring which regulates the governor 'ate' it's way through the lever arm? There is now a groove between the spring retention hole and the upper part of the arm of about one-quarter an inch, the width of the spring. Is there a better fix than to replace the control arm? Does anyone know why, after only 182 hours since it was fully rebuilt by Mack Boring in Middleton, MA why the arm would fail so quickly? I checked the Yanmar Parts List, and it does not show any type of wear surface, like a stainless steel wear bearing. The Yanmar Parts page reference is: Page 66-1 Control Device, Part reference: *18 Gov. Lever *105282-66150. Thanks, Bob Early

Parts all there per Yanmar Parts List

I checked the Yanmar parts list and 'exploded' drawings very carefully. There are no missing parts, per the manual. In fact, there was an upgrade indicated in the parts list which is what was installed on the engine. In fairness to Mack Boring, I did not examine the engine with parts book in hand, to verify the entire linkage is as described. I will do that this weekend. The lever was removed to make it easier to jury-rig a connection using seizing wire (monel), and the part is shown upside down. The channell or groove is very clear being shown from the spring hole to the radius of the lever arm. I have a photo of the defective part, but I was unable to upload it with the original question. We will show it here. Thanks, Bob

Fix it....

That's not a part normaly replaced during a rebuild. Without ability to document it's condition prior to the rebuild I'm unable to decide if it should have. Anyway, take it to a good welder/machine shop and get the wear crack welded up. Pat McCartin Inland Marine Diesel Buford, Ga imd_ga@hotmail.com
