YANMAR QUESTION

Since the Diesel site is still down, I'll post this question here. I've got a 2GMF on my '85 H31 and have a very smally fuel leak emanating from the mechanical fuel pump. Had the same problem about 6 years ago and replaced the pump. Looks like fuel is weeping from the gasket/diaphram, and torquing down the 4 screws which connect the top and bottom of the pump (and seals the diaphram) hasn't helped. Yanmar doesn't sell a diaphram replacement, you just have to buy the pump itself (as I recall it was almost $100 the last time, but I could be way wrong). Has anyone else had a similar problem and been able to "fix" their leak w/o resorting to a total replacement of the pump? BTW, for those of you out there who are contemplating pump replacement, it is a real bear to access the 2 mounting bolts. I've got the bloody knuckles to prove it! Smooth sailing! Tim (S/V "TIDE")

Ask Torresen

Don't have an answer for you, but Gordon Torresen who headed the diesel thread here still answer question at his site. Try him. He also has over 1200 posts archived. Perhaps your answer is there. Good Luck

New fuel pump

I replaced the fuel pump on my 3GMD. The cost of the pump was $63.65 from a Yanmar dealer, back in June 2000. You are better off with a new one than trying to repair the old one. You are right, it is very dificult to get to, but with patience and mirrors it can be done. Good luck, Ernie
