I just had my 1GM10 rebuilt and reinstalled. Took it out under power and could make no more than 2300rpms in forward and not normal boat speed for that rev level. I Looked at the shaft and it seemed to be turning slower than normal. In reverse however I can cavitate the prop, what was normal Hunter prop walk is a lot worse and I can run the motor to full rpm and power. It is almost like they got the gear ratios screwed up during reassembly and or the governor set improperly. Before I call the repair operator i wanted to get some input on my assumptions. Any ideas. Fouled Prop?

If not call the repair guy back and have him explain it.

Fouled Prop? Could be.

Once I had my Yanmar 2GM20F hauled out for repair. Upon putting back it display similar symptom as you described. Making very slow headway with rpm below 3000. Very slow stern way with rpm closer to 3300. But engine rpm on free load can go upto 3800rpm! Dived in the water and found prop fully caked up with barnacles! Clear it and everything back to norm. Seems like the barnacle has been making homes while my engine was out for repair.

throttle cable?

Perhaps the throttle cable isn't pulled tight and not running the engine up to full rpm.
