It appears that 1 or more of the motor mounts for my Yanmar 3gm are in need of replacing. This means that all 4 must be replaced. Yanmar mounts are 80.00 each which seems rather excessive to me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Tom F

Tom, take a peek at the ones I installed.

You can see them on the opening film strip on my web site. They are the same stud size as the Yanmars but don't move near as much and are more compact and won't rust and only cost $97.00 for all four. (Is that enough 'ands'?) I think I bought them from these guys but I'm not sure. http://www.marineparts.com/partspages/table.htm If they can't help, email me, (it's on my site) and I will dig through my receipts.

Tom, thank you so much

Canada and Desolation Sound is where we will be from now on. (on vacation) How are the cruising grounds these days? Not too many kids in the summer I hope. Guess why.

Fred you could cruise for a life time between the San Juans and the North End of Vancouver Island and never see it all. The Gulf Islands and desolation sound can get a bit crowded in the popular spots in the summer but there are alot of places off the beaten track, especially before and after July and August. Check out the Octopus Islands Marine Park, on the East side of Quadra Island. We will look out for "Epitome". My wife and I sail a Catalina 30 out of Sidney "Tomfoolery". Cheers

Fred -Question

Fred, I have the one cylinder Yanmar. Will the mounts you have fit and are they adjustable? Thanks Carter Leary

I think all of the small Yanmar engines use the

same mounts. The replacement mounts I have are equipped with the same size stud (length too) and same thread pitch. The body's are much smaller. I needed smaller to get my revised hydraulic pump mount installed. The only reasons for using a certain mount is the compliance of the rubber and the weight and torque of the load. In other words, will it give the desired cushiness or if in a race car, give the needed characteristics of the sport (race) that the car is used in. In a sailboat, well, not too many parameters come to my mind. You don't want too much rust. You want the engine to stay were you put it. You want it quiet and you need them to last. A FAIR price doesn't hurt either. These guys fill the bill for me. I JUST DUG OUT MY INVOICE. They did come from Marine Partsfinders, 618 US Hwy #1 STE 306, North Palm Beach FL. 33408. No phone # shown. The part # for the mounts is BAR80001. My cost was $22.60 each. (total 90.40) With $10.95 freight the total was $101.35. That was on 7/10/00. Should be the same price today. (nearly) Sure beats Yanmar. And these work great. Oh, they are fully adjustable as the Yanmar mounts but because they have a smaller base, you will need one new hole for each mount, in your angle iron beams. The steel is soft, Makita worked for me. :) Man, I am doing all the work this morning; http://www.marineparts.com/partspages/ENGINE/ENGINE1.HTM
