I have a 1989 Yanmar 2gm and need a manual - have looked on line and cannot find one, also the Yanmar Web site has nothing. My specific needs are - Where are the internal zincs? Also this will be my first time with this engine and I cannot find the dipstick for the oil - this may sound funny but three of us have looked and it's driving us nuts. Thanks in advance. Joe M

Yannie manuals

Mavex in Miami 305-436-1860 (ask for Mike, tell him I sent you) can get you a Yanmar manual. Another option (I'd get both) is a Sealoc manual for Yanmars, which is like Chilton's for autos. It is generally easier to follow than the official Yanmar manual. If you face the engine so that pullies and facing you and the transmsion is to the rear (generally facing aft); your dipstick should be on starboard side of the motor, about halfway back, about 1/3 from the bottom. There is a little ring on the outside of the dipstick. You probably do not have an internal zinc. The GM series are fresh water cooled internally through an exchanger. Good luck

PS on manuals

You can find sealoc manuals at BoatUS/WM and on-line book sellers.

Tried Mack Boring ?

You can get them from Mack Boring- NJ if its the 2GMF, I don't think there are internal zincs. The oil dip stick is on the lower left side looking at the engine from the front. J McCue

Dip Stick Location

I have an 87 Yanmar 2g engine. This dip stick is on the lower left hand side if you are looking directly at the engine. In my 31' Hunter I have to remove the shelf in the sink cabinet to open the side door to remove the stick.

Try Torrensen Marine for a Manuel

Torrensen Marine (they have a link here on this site) should have it. I think the site is torrensen.com

Thank you

Thanks everyone. Found the dipstick, even after everyone told me were it was, it took some time. Found a general purpose manual and it told me all I need to know for now. Thanks again. Joe M
