Is anybody aware if somebody come up with an instrument replacement for the idiot lights on the Yanmar engines. That or maybe the source of the instruments and sending units for the oil pressure and water temp. Alternator mod for instrument is simple and easy. But the other two will need sending units with metric treads.

Not a good idea.

Aldo: It is not a very good idea to replace the idiot lights. The Yanmar has a highly reliable system check system that works very well. A boat is not like a car, these lights or gauges are not if front of your face like in a car so you are not looking at them all the time. Adding the gauges to the system is another thing. The threads are BPT not metric. They can be re-tapped and a 'T' placed in the line. It was advised to me that the oil pressure unit be re-mounted to a bulkhead and the 'T' would be placed bulkhead to prevent any chance of it breaking from vibration. Probably any good quality Stewart Warner or similar gauge should work fine. If you are not comfortable with doing some of these things I may be better letting a pro do the basic things and you could finish up the details

Which Model Of Yanmar?

If you are asking about 2GM20F I may be able to help. Several years ago with help of a Yanmar mechanic I added water temp and oil pressure sensors to the Yanmar on my 30T and left the buzzers in place. All work like a charm. I can send installation instructions, photos and wiring diagrams to anyone who contacts me at roynjean@home.com.

Stewart Warner on my 2QM20.

Stewart Warner panel has starter button, ammeter, oil pressure, tach, and water temp gauges. And a night light. Best feature is the on/off key is NOT the Yanmar master key. This is a 1979 boat, don't know if panel is original.

Thanks to all!!!

Seems like Roy offer the best solution and I will try to imposed on him in that... The archives, Pete,is for me a way to learn more about this stuff. And, Steve, I agreed with you: both systems complement each other very good. Thanks to all, again!
