Yanmar Injector Pump Install

I am installing a new high pressure injector pump on my YSM12. The timing on the old pump was correct. The fuel injection timing on the YSM12 is adjusted by placing shims under the base of the injector pump. Does anyone have any experience with changing out one of these pumps that uses shims for timing? I believe that I should use the same shims for the new pump that were on the old pump. I can recheck the timing by pulling the starter to check the timing mark. I would like to avoid pulling the starter if possilbe.

I would appreciate anyone sharing their experience with changing one of these type injector pumps.

Jalepeno, thanks for the offer. I have the manual. I probably need to pull the starter and check the injector pump timing to be safe.
