Does anyone remember a post with an excellent repair suggestion for the Yanmar flickering hour meter problem? I thought I bookmarked it but can't find it. Anyone remember?

Found it. Just wasn't using the right key words in search.

You can always install a seperate hour meter. We did this on our HV36. I think WEMAUSA has them.

Yeah Steve, I bought one in the fall but got intimidated by the prospect of running it for 500 hrs to catch up with the engine. Any ideas on how to put 500 hrs on the new hour meter? I wonder if I can run it at a higher voltage to make it record faster??

Feel lucky
When we bought our present boat the hour meter was connected to the DC bus. It had failed at something over 85,000 hours. Not of much value there. I replaced it with a generic brand and connected it properly. At least I know when to change the oil now.

You can hook up the hour meter to a 12v source other than the engine until it catches up to the 500 hr. I connected mine to a 12v plug (cigarette plug) and then stuck it in my car.

Yes I was thinking of that also.
Thanks

If you put the new meter in leave the hours as is and record the change in your maintenance log. No need to match hours. Record your maintenance from the new hour meter readings. Keep a column for total hours for justification.
