Yanmar fuel feed pump

I knew not to over torque that bolt on the intake side of the fuel feed pump on my 2GM20F but I've been trying to stop a pesky fuel leak for several weeks and well I did it. I stripped the bolt hole on the feed pump. Now what? I couldn't figure how to remove the thing. Can it be re-threaded or do I have to replace the entire thing? :cry:

If you have the expertise, bore the hole out and insert a "heli-coil'. Alternatively, clean/bore the hole and tap in the next larger size thread / bolt.

next time exchange the bolt for a stud and you will be less likely to strip the hole and removing a broken stud is usually easier

It depends on how handy you are. You could try to put in a heli-coil but if that doesn't work you will have to buy a new pump. No matter which way you go make sure you replace all the banjo washers or renew them. If there's any marks on the face of the washers they will not seal. I just changed my pump for a failed diapham. I'm just curious about your leak. If it was on the intake side wouldn't this allow air into the system as well?

Never had air in the system. Perhaps the leak was from the pump itself. I decided to replace the pump as it is actually relatively inexpensive (for Yanmar anyway). Found this post on the web www.mesmerenterprizes.com/wordpress/?page_id=63
with good explanation and pictures for replacement of fuel feed pump. You do have to be a munchkin contortionist to remove it, I think.

I am curious as to the price of a pump in Gulfport MS as opposed to Nanaimo BC.
I will be ordering one tomorrow for the same engine.

stripped body o fbanjo bolt means replacement of lift pump---good thing these arent as expensive as the rest of the mess--goood luck and have fun....

I would strongly recommend replacing the lift pump.. Also when you do, replace all the little copper washers, and do so every time you loosen a line. They can be had at most auto supply stores. I have even found some fibre washers at an Ace Hardware that work. But once the copper ones get a little burr on them, they will leak. And you have already figured out that tightening more doesn't help.

take one of the old ones to ace they have fibre ones that work well....also check at napa for metric oil pan washer...phil says this while i typo.....his is finally fixed whew--!!!!!!
