That is the reason that I moved it below. The knob stuck out enough from the panel that people would bang it and then the cable was corroding so it was very difficult to pull. It has been below deck for about 20 years now and it still works as smooth as butter. It was also a much better quality cable too.

Wow Steve, that is a cool gadget. My cable works for the most part now, but it will fail here one of these days soon. I can feel it. Thanks, I just added another project to my list. By the way is getting longes as the days go on. Oh, and thanks for the link.

Robert :)

If you go to a regular marine store, they may have these in stock. The one problem that we encounted was the fitting on the engine end of the cable. I ended up just using some small cable clamps to hold it in place. I think you can get a fitting for the engine end. They also have handles to fit on the pull end of the cable.

Hi Keith. This doesn't pertain to the engine panel, but there is enough information on that project on this web site.
You asked for some pictures of my bimini last month, and I came up with some. I took these the last time our boat was out for bottom maintanence in 2008. They are on my picture albumn on this web site. For some reason, I could not get them to you the other way. Let me know if you get them.
