Yanmar 2GF 18 horse 1993 (2000 hours on it).
Noticed two places on the absorbant where some oil has dripped, under the front face (seemingly from a small round faceplate behind the belt about the center of the engine above and to the right of the water-pump ... what is that faceplate?) and also under the rear of the engine and I can't see a source.
Is it likely the oil could come down the front and find it's way to the rear before falling on the absorbant or do I have two leaks? There is a few tablespoons on oil on the absorbant in total.
What are the probable causes?
Should I be attending to this before motoring off for the weekend or can I deal with it later? The oil level in the motor is safe.
Also an Alarm went off for the first time showing over-heating. The operator was running at 3500 RPM (basically WOT) for a few minutes before I notice and dropped to 2800RPM. After a few seconds the Alarm came on and the red light for Over Heating so I idled the motor for a half minute and the alarm stopped the light went out and we carried on.
Question: Did the overheating come from dropping rpm on a hot engine, is it normal to overheat if running WOT (wide open throttle) or do I have a cooling problem?
Question: Could overheating cause the oil drip issue perhaps from an overflow or breather outlet?
Thanks, Greg
