I got good advice about my loss of power. The Mixing elbow was almost completely clogged. Please see the photo.

Sorry, Tony...

I don't think your photo post came through. How old is your engine, please?

To all newcomers

The mixing elbow is the Achilles' Heel of these Yanmar engines. Here's three things to consider. 1. Run your engine at cruising speed to avoid the carbon buildup. 2. Be prepared to replace the elbow every five years. 3. Dismantle it at the four bolts holding the housing, since it's impossible to remove just the elbow. More in the Archives.

For all of its notoriety,

none of the mechanics who worked on my boat seemed to know anything about this elbow issue. They all wanted to check fuel, change filters, bleed injectors and when that did not work, removed and checked the injectors, injection pump, etc. I do not think that they were just making work. They were simply incompentent.

I'm trying ceramic coating.

I had my last one coated by JetHot. They applied their Jethot 2000 coating. Hopefully that will help with the rust problem. I can't see how it will help with carbon buildup though. I'll report back in a few years. :)
