The control panel for the diesel on my 1985 28.5 has succumed to the UVs and started to break up. Are these a Yanmar product or were they made by Hunter?
I purchased an exact replacement of the one on my 1985 Hunter from Torresen a few years ago. I kept the old guages, etc. and reused them in the installation to keep costs down. The whole replacement process took well less than an hour.
IF it's a Yanmar, do as the previous post recommends. Control Panels usually come with the engine when it's purchased. Yanmar with Yanmar, Universal with Universal, etc, etc.
I found the panel at my local Yanmar dealer and installed it that day. The installation would have been easy except for it being one of those extemely hot Louisiana days and I had a fight with the engine stop cable, other than that not a bad excercise.
My engine control panel is located on the side of the cockpit and is not covered or recessed. After replacing the fuel gauge and adding a new tachometer, I made a wooden cover for the entire panel. It has an arched part that matches the curve of the panel and a main part that hangs down over the panel. When we are off the boat, the varnished wooden cover hangs over the panel on a lanyard and protects the panel and gauges from UV.
