Yanmar blow ups

I called Shumway Marine in Rochester, NY looking for a particular gasket. Rochester is 60 miles away - thus the round trip is 120. My 3qm needed a gasket. Here is what I told the guy at Shumway over the phone. I explained that the engine had two water pumps - one for outside - fresh water and one for internal - where the anti freeze is. I explained that the internal waterpump mounted to a section that housed the water temp sending unit and that assembly bolted to the block. I needed the gasket between said assembly and the block. Looking back, I realize now he had no idea what I was talking about when he said the gasket was in stock. I made the trip out there and, of course, he had thought I meant the raw water pump and the gasket I needed was a week's wait. No apology - no excuses - just an "oh no, we don't have that in stock and it will take a week."Does anyone have a site where I can get an exploded view of the 3qm with parts numbered? I have not been able to locate such a site.

Have you tried Torrenson Marine?

I'm not sure on the spelling but they helped me with my diesel. Not sure if they deal with Yanmar or not.Keep it up, Ctskip

If you had posted earlier I could have asked for you! I live in Rochester and sail out of voyager marina - directly next to Shumway. (though, I'm not particularly familiar with the engine either)

You can't purchase Yanmar parts outside your region

Sorry guys, but Yanmar does not allow consumers to purchase parts outside their geo. regions. I think that Mack Boring and their dealers are your only option for NY.You can contact them for yourself to find out who can supply these parts in your region.

What type of material is it? Auto places sell gasket material you can cut using the old one as a template. If it is metal, that is a different story, but maybe you can use some of the Permatex liquid type gasket stuff temporarily.Manny

Silicone

I will reuse the old gasket and coat it with high temp silicone.If I had a parts blow up, I could avoid this problem by being able to give the guy the exact number over the phone.

I looked at the Torrenses site, adn while there are no pictures, you can easily identify the parts and get the Yanmar part number.Just as an aside, I noticed a new coolant pump is $746.93! I paid about $60 for the equivalent for my Universal M25 (by buying the Kubota part number from an ag dealer).

Parts OK from Torresen

I also live in Rochester and have ordered Yanmar parts from Torresen many times.Just wondering why you contacted the Rochester store rather then the one in Amherst (Buffalo) which is half the distance?For parts I purchased a Yanmar service manual where the blow-up diagrams you need are located.

Get the 3QM30 Service manual

all the part number and drawings are included. Pricey, but will save time and effort and $$$$. BTW the gasket that you need for the fresh water pump is probably the 'body bracket gasket', doesnt have a part number in the manual plus you need to specify which engine 'variant' you have such as 3QM30Y, 3QM30H, 3QM30F, etc.

I just re-read my post. I had West Marine on my mind and not Shumway. I dock at Shumway and use their store, and agree that looking up Yanmar parts is difficult for them.
