I replaced the belts on my engine and am having difficulty getting the new belts properly tensioned. I'm reluctant to use a pry bar because I don't want to damage the pulleys and there is not much else to pry against. My alternator light is coming on faintly unless the engine is running above 2500 rpm. Any thoughts?

Dan L There is a simple and cheap tool available at your local auto store for tensioning the belts of any engine. They probably come in several size, so just pick one that covers the size range in which you are interested. Bill

Was your light coming on before you changed the belt? Those bellts don't have to that tight that you need a pry bar... so it sings like a piano string. Make sure you have the right belt and that you loosen them up for winter storage... don't want all that strain on the waterpump and alternator bearings. Other than that... could be your alternator. I am sure there is an electrical wizz out there that can tell you what the alternator should be reading with an amp meter. Good Luck.
