Has anyone out there had enough experience with the Yanmar 54hp to give me an estimate on fuel consumption? I am thinking 3/4 gal/hr at about 2000 rpm or about 67 hours for a 50 gal tank. At 2000 rpm I am cruising at about 6.5 kts so I should have a range of about 433 nms. I know it is dependent on windage but I am just looking for a rough estimate. Does anyone have some better numbers?

I estimate 1.1 gals per hour on our 2005 H41AC with 54 hp engine. Cruise at 2,400 rpm usually, about 71.-7.3 knots. Have an Autostream 3-bladed feathering prop, not a stock prop.

I have a 50 and it's .8 to 1.2 and 1.5 if I'm pushing it into a chop. That's with a two blade folding prop. Isn't 2000 RPM a bit low? The usual cruise RPM is 80% WOT. What does the manual say?

I run mine 2200-2450 RPM, 7-1-7.5 kts, and see about 1.0 G/Hr

Just by engine size alone I would consider that those estimates of close to 1GPH should be very close to the actual. We burn close to 3/4 GPH on a 3GM30F. Don't forget that the usable fuel capacity of of your tank is going to be less than the actual holding capacity. The engine will start sucking air before the tank is empty and in bumpy seas that usable capacity gets reduced even further. I would assign a 10% or 5 gallons to serve as a reserve and to cover the non-usable capacity. In my best guess you could probably safely count on 45 hours of motoring before refueling. Even if your actual burn rate is calculated to be under 1 GPH it is always best to give yourself a margin of safety. We do not calculate range or distance until we are on the water facing actual conditions.

Thanks guys for the information! As a general rule I will say 1gph. Thanks again!
