Yanmar 3YM30

I just changed the oil for winter lay-up in my Yanmar 3YM30 and noticed that there are two places on the engine to add oil. One is on top where I have added oil previously and there is another on the upper front starboard side of the engine. Both have identical colored caps and both say "oil". There is only one dipstick for the oil.
Any suggestions as to what the one on the starboard side (top) is for, and would it use the same oil as the rest of the engine?
I have a manual but I don't find any info on the two fill caps.

Looking at the manual, I see that "Oil Fill " is referenced in two places as you've said.. Both ultimately get oil into the oil pan so which one you use is a matter of convenience for you. The top one allows you to put oil into the valve cover which will drain through the pushrod passages and down into the oil pan.. The one on the starboard side allows the oil into the gear case/injection pump area where it will also drain into the oil pan at the bottom of the engine.

There was a similar thread about this a couple months ago for some other Yanmar engine. Consensus was that either cap will work, but some engine installations only give access room for one or the other.

Winter lay up? Ohhhhhhh no. No! Not now. That's like a "Back to School" poster on a telephone pole. Where to do live? Hudson Bay? No, no, no. Winterization happens in late October at the earliest. November is more like it. It is before Labor Day for Pete's Sake.

Up here in the north country, haulout time has arrived. My boat comes out the week after next.
Its already getting choppy in the marina when the wind shifts to the north. There was actually patchy frost two nights ago. Where I store, I think they said they wanted everybody out of the pool by the end of September (I hope they meant the end of October).
Its already really quiet here. School started this week, and fall sports have begun. The tourists are departing.
The unfortunate part is that there are really some fantastic sailing days in September and October, but the weather in between can get nasty.

Thanks for all your help.
Although it is normally too early to winterize the boat here in Kansas, my wife and I will be starting our vacation in mid Sept and will be gone for a month or so.
Thanks again
