Bruce: I assume that the hour meter is part of your engine panel. Is it a seperate meter or built into the tach?

If you look on the back of the meter, you should be able to determine which wires are for the hour meter and trace them through the harness. An owners manual may have a wiring diagram.

Bruce, I also had the engine hour meter die on me a few years ago (2006 at 1300 Hours). It was on a Hunter 33.5 1990 vintage. The meter was a seperate one installed next to the electrical distribution panel above the nav station. It was made by Faria and by going to there web site I found the model info and source. I cant remember the name of the distributor (CRS). It was a Faria Model MH009E. Hope this helps.

Bruce, I checked my files and the distributor of the Faria Engine Hour Meter was ShipStore.com in Westport, NY. The invoice listed it as an item No. FAR 12824. I assume that FAR stands for the manufacturer Faria. Cost was $47.26 + $7.00 UPS charge. That was in May 2006.

Also, these hour meters work by getting 12V DC from the "output" side of the ignition switch. As long a the ignition switch is on the meter runs. Good luck with it.

The meter is part of the Yanmar panel...built in...I will relook at the manual for the wiring diagram, but since the engine is under warranty, probably best to go that route...thanks for the comments!

If you are under warranty, I would definetly go that way. It is a good time for the mechanic to check out the engine too.

Did you have your 50 hr service on the engine?

Probably only a loose wire

Gain access to the back of the hour meter. Turn on the ignition (engine does not have to start) and check between the two wires. You should get 12 volts.
If not, check between the hot (red) and a known good ground. There should be 12 volts available. If 12 volts are available check the ground wire for continuity by turning off the ignition, setting your multi meter to resistance and testing the ground (black) and a known good ground. There should be no more than fractional Ohms. If all that checks out supply 12 volts from where ever you can get it with a jumper wire and supply it to the hour meter. If it still does not run it is clearly the hour meter.
DigiKey has them for cheap.

Before you go buy anything check the voltage like Bill said, and check the connection in the back of the panel. Water gets in there and there can be corrission. Mine quit working too at 90 hours. My connection in the back of the meter was bad. Easy fix.
