It peels off if you pull it. It was so dirty and cruddy that replacing it seems to make sense
An obvious question I neglected to ask: What does the interior of your engine compartment look like ? Is it dirty like the filter element. Got me wondering about an exhaust leak in the compartment.

Unless ........................... you have belt dust.

I'm at a loss as to why your filter element keeps disintegrating while mine holds up nicely. Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ? :sosad:
Well for starter you'll need to be running your engine..... ;)

Practical Sailor just came out (coincidence?) with their picks on filter replacements. They discuss the Walker system and K&N Airsep

Yes, yes, I know .

Between smoke from forest fires in surrounding areas, rain on most days, and the occasional pandemic coming through, I don't get in the amount of hours on the water I'd like to. But I STILL SAY we are the most beautiful place on earth, on both days it don't rain ................ and forest fire smoke doesn't blanket us.

But my air filter is still pristine with the less than ideal hours it does get :cuss:!
