Yanmar 3GM30F fuel pump ?

Here is my problem,after diconecting the engine throttle and trans controls to find out why they were so hard to operate I discovered that they were fine and that the problem is the fuel pump is hard to operate. The throttle shaft that goes into the side of the fuel pump is very stiff and will not return to a idle position. (I checked a friends 3GM30F and his works easy and is spring loaded to return to idle)Anybody ever have this problem and know what the cure is? Engine is a 1996 3GM30F with appx 350 hours on it and rums good except for this issue.Any and all ideas needed before I talk to the Yanmar mechanic!Thanks for you help!

Pete, I gave this reply to a guy a couple of weeks ago. If you have any questions, you can contact me thru the Owner's Directory. This has happened to me twice. The cable connects to the throttle lever on the engine (duh!) and that is the lever that binds. You will notice that it probably has rust on it. On my engine it's located just beneath the heat exchanger, so if anything drips then KER-PLOP! right on the lever.Here's the permanent remedy. Liberally spray the lever with penetrating oil to break down the rust (I like a product called "PB"). It needs to sit and work for about two hours. When it gets loose, then spray it again, liberally, with White Lithium grease spray. That's the stuff car dealers use on hinges, etc. It should provide a nice lubricant and moisture barrier. When you lay it up for the season, do it again. We are getting ready to lay up for the season back here in Rhode Island.Good Luck. Let us know how you make out.

Do not use WD40

As an aside to the last response, I tried WD-40 and it require a lot of elbow grease to loosen it up. It took no time for it to tighten up again. So forego the WD40 and go right to my recommendation.

What it is

WD-40 in not actually a lubricant. The WD stands for water dispersant. That is why you can spray it inside of a wet distributor cap, and the engine will run after dispersing the moisture.
