MY YANMAR REFUSES TO HOLD AN IDLE AFTER RUNNING FOR 30 MINS?? FUEL INJECTORS CHECKED (WORKING) FUEL LINES AND TANK REPLACED FUEL FILTERS CHANGED EXHAUST ELBOW REPLACED I'VE BEEN TROUBLE SHOOTING FOR THE LAST 5 WEEKS, AND THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS AND SUMMER IS SLIPPING AWAY, ALONG WITH MY SAVING ACCOUNT, ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED, MY NEXT STEP IS TO REMOVE THE INJECTION PUMP AND HAVE IT TESTED AND REPLACED. PLEASE TELL ME SOMEONE ELSE OUT THERE HAS RUN INTO THIS PROBLEM, AND IT WAS SOME OVERLOOKED 5 DOLLAR FIX, I SPEND 1 MORE DOLLAR ON THIS BOAT AND MY FIANCE WILL KILL ME!!!

Define "hold an idle". Does the engine shut down from fuel starvation or is there some warning light/alarm that sounds on the instrument panel? Are you able to run the engine above idle prior the 30 min point mentioned? Is the engine able to rotate the shaft in fwd/rev? What symptoms led you to undertake the major repairs that you mentioned? Could it be that you never solved the original problem? Hope these questions will aid in further investigation and solution of your problem.

Explain more of the details,sounds like what a freind of mine was having and it was a air leak in one of the fuel hoses,but his would stop running and not start again,hope you find the problem soon. nick

Venting
Check also to see if your fuel cap vents properly. Are your connections tight so as to not introduce air into the system? Will it idle if you crack the bleeder open slightly? If so your fuel filter may not have a good seal or you have a leak. Did this just happen after you serviced the fuel system? If so it was most likely done incorrectly.

If it is still running after the hour, you can check the vent hose for blockage. The next thing may be an air leak in the system which may be causing the fuel starvation. I would suspect that this problem would in turn make the engine difficult to start if the secondary fuel filter is empty. What were the symptoms before all of these repairs were made? PS: Have you had any professional counseling on this matter?

I think Steve is right with the air leak.
My guess is that one or more fittings are leaking air. I would check all the fittings to the injectors that may have been opened to bleed the fuel system. You have a problem at idle but after 30 minutes do you have a problem at any other throttle setting? Are you sure that the filter fittings and filter connection is tight? Something that might not be tight after the filter change. When did this start happening? was it after running out of fuel, changing a filter or a fuel stop that might have had water. Even a new filter will have problems with water or algae in the tank. This would normally affect more than idle speed. r.w.landau

Have you replaced the banjo washers?
You may think that these connections are okay and appear to NOT be leaking fuel, but maybe they are sucking air? Just get a handful of them and replace all of them. You can probably not purchase a 6 pack of beer to pay for them! It should keep her off your back.

Clamps and fittings
One of the guys on the dock was experiencing a similar (same) problem. He found that a hose nipple was installed on the Racor without teflon tape to seal the threads. Once that was redone, the problem went away. Another cause could be the clamps on the fuel lines at all fittings--try giving them a turn to see if one hasn't backed off and allowing air to be sucked in.

idle adjustment screw
you may have checked this already, but after the engine has warmed up your idle adjustment screw may be set too low. The engine should be able to idle at about 800 rpms. Any lower and it will stall. Good luck
