I have a 2005 Hunter 33 based at Pittwater in Sydney. After a morning sail I moored for lunch and shut down the engine in the normal way with the stop button.
When attempting to restart the engine it would turn over easily but would not run. I had experienced a similar problem many months ago when the stop solenoid jammed.
Upon checking the stop solenoid, thinking it was a recurrence of a previous problem it was functioning normally. A call to the engineers at my Marina resulted in me disconnecting the wiring connection to the solenoid and the engine started. At the same time the gas alarm sounded and continued until I returned to my Marina berth and shut down the engine by reconnecting the wires to the stop solenoid.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Could it be a problem with the cockpit control panel? Any help be appreciated.

All the solenoid does is move the fuel cutoff. It should engage when the button is pressed and disengage (by spring action) when you release the button. So either the solenoid is sticking or the fuel shut off lever is not working correctly.
Try having a helper press the button and release while you eyeball the operation of the solenoid.

Do you have an automatic fire extinguisher in your engine compartment? If that goes off the fuel shutoff is engaged as well (there should be a bypass switch near the engine panel).

that solenoid has two currents in it one to pull the fuel shut off lever and the other to hold it in place till you turn off the ignition switch ...the pull circuit draws about 40 amps when you push the stop button ......the hold circuit draws about 2 amps to hold it in place until you cut off the 12v power at the ignition switch
