My yanmar2qm15 on a hunter 30 1981 starts slowly when cold - fine when warmed up. I wanted to check my injectors but having removed the retainers and the lines have not been able to remove the injectors themselves. I have tried cranking the engine with the retainers put loosely back on. I have soaked them in PB Blaster - nothing has worked. Any ideas? cb

Cold starting difficulty can be caused by valves being out of adjustment. Check other Yanmar sources for specs, advice and adjustments. Good luck! SH

I think you're troubleshooting in the wrong direction.

I think you have a weak battery also check your air filter and check for a small air leak in the fuel system.

Cold Start

I had a 2QM15 on my 1980 H30 and it was always hard to start when cold. Leaving a 100W light bulb under the engine overnight or blowing hot air into the intake sometimes helped. Slow cranking sounds more like a battery or wiring problem.

clarification

when I said it starts slowly, it cranks ok, just takes more than 5 seconds to start - when it does, it runs on one cylinder for a while, then kicks in.

Cold Start

The symptoms you describe of the cold start are typical for the 2QM15. It just does not want to get out of bed on a cold morning. If it runs well after it does start, I would suspect that your injectors are OK.
