I purchased by boat used & it had no manual for th Yanmar 2GMF deisel. After some searching I ordered a manuel form Yanmar. Its got WAY TOO much information and WAY TOO little explaination. Does anyone know where I can get a manual that deals w/routing maintencance - something like "YANMAR MAINTENANCE FOR DUMMIES"?

Check the archives!

Dennis: You may want to search the archives. I believe that someone wrote up something. Generally there is very little general maintenance for these engines. 1. Change oil every 50-100 hours or once a year. Change the transmission oil every year or every other year as required. 2. Change the fuel filters on the same schedule (even though you can probably go every other year without any problems) This depends on the condition of your fuel tank and the quality (how clean is your fuel) of fuel you purchase. 3. Change the anti-freeze every other year. 4. Valve adjustment every 500 hours. 5. Change the raw water impeller every other year. 6. Check/Change the v-berths every year. 7. Check/Change the hoses every year. 8. Clean the raw water strainer every year (more often if you are in a grassy area). 9. Check/Replace the Mixing elbow every 3-5 years as required. 10. Check your exhaust hose for cracking (replace as necessary) 11. Check/clean the heat exchanger every year. Cannot think of much else on the engine.

Chilton Manuals on Amazon

I ordered one of the Chilton Manuals for the Y2GM on my former H31. Chilton publishes manuals on about every engine out there. Chilton was purchased by Seloc, but you can find the book on Amazon, Borders, etc. If the link below does not work, earch Amazon for "Yanmar manuals". This book covers several models but it's very user friendly and gives you tips and general approch to most issues. I found it very helpful.

Buy the Seloc

The Seloc manual was written by picking the brains of Steve Mcgovern, Ned McGovern, and most importantly, Larry Berlin who runs their Engine City Tech. Diesel sshool. Plain and simple there is no BETTER source for information on the Yanmar as Installed in our Hunters. There is no one who knows more about Yanmars. I have the Yanmar factory manual and even for a trained mechanic it's too much. The knownedge gained over the last 30 years selling yanmar is reflected in the Seloc manual. Do yoursellf a favor. Call Mack boring, (I'm not sure they sell it but I have seen it in their display case) or go to Amazon.com. Buy it.

Operation Manual

The operation manual (that came with the boat) for the GM-HM series is 34 pages of fairly clear English. And then you've got Francais, Deutsch, Espanol, Italiano, and Svensk! (Plus a 5 page appendix in all languages). Nothing real earth shattering here though. Post you query and someone can fax you the related pages
