Yanmar 2GM

I've got a Yanmar 2GM in my H30 and the fuel pump is leaking. I've posted here before about the problem, so I don't want to hear about switching to an electric fuel pump. I might do that if I can hook up both.
The problem is that the fuel pump is leaking fuel both in the oil, and out of the fuel pump. The parts needed to rebuild the pump supposedly aren't available individually or in a kit, but I can purchase a whole fuel pump. The service guy at the Yanmar place said that they just rebuilt one, a couple of weeks ago, but wouldn't give me any information. So why is it that he can get the parts to rebuild one, but I can't.
Is there a place where I can get the material for the diaphragm and make my own. I can't see spending the money on a new fuel pump, if I can get a new diaphragm for a couple of bucks. Can anyone help with this?

Order the rebuild kit (replacement valves, diaphragm, etc.) from Yanmar 'master' distributors such as MackBoring, Torreson, etc. Your local distributor is not being 'truthful' and Id avoid doing business with them in the future.

I tried to rebuild my fuel pump in my yanmar ysm12 and the diaphram was not available, only the whole pump. I looked on bluewater ship store's site and called them. See if you can find them online, but I couldn't find the diaphram for mine.
neurosailor-how fast will your 2gm push your boat in calm water and in chop? I am looking at purchasing a 2gm and wondered what I could expect in performance.
Actually the one I am looking at is a 2QM15. Is yours the 15 or the 20?

Thanks Rich , I thought that something wasn't right. Now to find the master distributor for my area. I've dealt with Torreson Marine before, They could probably help me with that.

Thanks Hermit, I'll try them too. My 2GM does ok, The 2 GM is rated at 13 hp. I would recommend the 2GM-20 if you want power. When the current in the inlet is strong, I have been slowed to as little as 2.9 kts. That would probably be a little less if it was really windy, which is when I would need to be moving faster to get out of a storm. I can run around 6.5 kts in normal conditions, and have gone as fast as 8.2 with the current. If I had my choice, I'd repower with the 20 hp motor.

The real Yanmar parts catalog (publication # 000Y00R0902) for that engine does not list a diaphragm or a rebuild kit for the fuel pump.. The only way to rebuild it would be to find a diaphragm from a similar pump from an old 60’s-70’s Japanese auto (unlikely).. or disassemble the pump and figure out how to remove the diaphragm without messing up the pump.. Find some thin good Buna-N or Viton material and make a new diaphragm using the old one for a pattern..

'Bout $82 for a new one. Replace what you have and rebuild the old one as a spare.

Fuel pump

Well, I've given up, I've talked to four Yanmar shops, and they all say the same thing, You can't buy just the parts, you have to buy the whole pump.
So tomorrow, it's off to get a new pump.
