The is the year of the unraveling sweater sleeve analogy for boat maintenance. First, I discover the stuffing box is dry rotted and cracked. It must be replaced. However to replace the stuffing box, the shaft coupling has to come off the end of the shaft. That is not going to happen. The shaft coupling is fused to the shaft after years of corrosion. So this means replacing the shaft, coupling, cutlass bearing While I am at it. After removing the cutlass I cut the shaft forward of the strut. Once done, the shaft sprang up to the bottom of the boat. What the...? After gong into the engine/transmission area, I see the engine way out of whack.
Upon inspection, I found the forward port motor mount bolt sheared off. The nut holding the aft port mount in place is missing. The starboard side must be equally screwed up.
Any recommendations on motor mounts out there? First throught is stock, but ideas welcome.
