Can anyone assist me with the normal expected fuel consumption rate of the Yanmar 27hp motor fitted to a 340 please. Also thanks to those folks who replied to my questions on wetherhelm and the boat being tender.

Depends on many things

But expect in the .5-.75 gph neighborhood. Low RPM, riding with low waves, wind at your back, sails up, you'll do better. High RPM, heading into big waves, much worse.

Fuel usage

my usage is .45-.52 gph i run @2600 RPM I have a 3 blade prop 15*13 which at 2600 gives me 7.9-8.1 knots hope this helps Foster

fuel consumption

we burn between .35 and .52 gph it varies with cruise rpm and how much time you spend charging the batteries at anchor. We tend to cruise around 2800-3200 rpm and get about 6.5 kts. Scott

340 deisel consumption

we burn between .30 and .50 gph. But this varies with sea conditions, cruise rpm and how much time you spend. We cruise around 2300-2800 rpm with a return of app. 4-5 kts. Fuel consumption is not a major factor.

Weatherhelm, and Tender - Well . . . .

The 340 is set up well for light winds (up to 15 mph). Its main sail is excessive for higher winds, but great in light winds. We tend to reef with winds over 15 mph finding that this both makes the boat lose its weatherhelm, and keeps it adequately powered. We do not feel the boat is tender, but consider the previous paragraph. On the other hand, when racing, we'll keep the full main and have someone working the main sheet off the cabin winch to avoid rounding up, etc., with great results.
