The 2004 8hp Yamaha used on our H260 had a factory mfg defect that went undiscovered for 2 1/2 yrs. There is a fuel line sized(3/8"?) water hose that runs up from the block, behind the carb intake manifold, up to the thermostat, just under the back of the flywheel, that was completely missing a hose clamp at the lower connection. The top was only fastened by a single tiny nylon zip tie. This caused saltwater to spray the block/carb/wiring/starter/flywheel unnoticed for 2yrs until the hose finally cracked at the connection, spraying/flooding the entire engine compartment up to the lower spark plug hole, about 2gals worth. I noticed the prob after running it and immediatly tilting the OB to see gallons of water flooding out from under the cowling and through the front wiring harness. If it was left to set a while in the down position the water would drain out the bottom undetected. The engine interior has been compromised, the harness had serious corrosion damage and I'm just glad it didn't completely fail at a dangerous time sailing. While fixable it has surely cut the life of this motor. I'd almost gaurantee that many others will find the same prob as that lower hose clamp is nearly impossible to get to and easily hidden until it fails. Go ck yours if you own one. Good luck Michael and Kelli 2004 H260 s/v "Plan B"
