aloha I have a 79 25 foot yamaha sailboat, been having trouble with the yanmar ysn8, I have a 15 horse merc long shaft outboard that i am thinking of mounting on transom has anybody tryed this, any suggestions,Thanks,Jerry

Y25 TRANSOM -----whimpy, whimpy, whimpy
The transom is very thin material, I'd add a lot of glass to spread the loads an outboard would inflict.
You'll be much happier (and safer) fixing the YSM8 and not messing with the outboard.
