I would say run it longer and check to see if any of the coolant paths are blocked. Get a service manual for that motor. Clean up the carb and check all the tubing (fuel/water).

I am on my second 9.9. The first I knew very little about and ended up trashing it. Got a new one and now take religious care of it. So much so that I flush it after every single use. This includes if I just run it for a few minutes.

Do you know the year, my guess is 80's? The cowling has sharp edges so it must be much older that '93. My first was a '93 and had rounded edges.

No ideal, that's part of what I was wanting to know, runs good but needs water pump, no big deal

Water pump? I don't think those had water pumps per se. I believe you want to replace the impeller which draws the water up into the upper unit.

Again, look for a service manual. My website has a service manual for a '95 9.9 but it shouldn't be too much different than this motor. It is under the picture of the boat.

Correct impeller, water pump same to me, both pump water. I was hoping someone new how to look up the serial# to find year at least, the sight I looked at was very confusing, thank-you

Biggest problem with older outboards is that gas is often left in them and the carbs clog up. Might want to rebuild the carb anyway, just to be safe. Other than that, new impeller, new sparkin-bolts, maybe new gear oil in the lower end, and you're Good To Go.

Don't forget to mix oil in the gas, given the age it is likely a two stroke and smaller motors don't usually have oil injection.

I have a 2014 model the high thrust remote version The only thing I have noticed it never use ethanol fuel it tends to mess with the carb. Also I have noticed the electric Choke comes off detaches it self then runs rich and quits. Also I have found if I detach the fuel hose and let it completely run out it seems to not have any Carb problems I use an extra Fuel filter as well and always keep a couple of spares On Board as well Other than those problems they are a great Motor good fuel economy and provides a lot of Power I use it as a aux. engine when I run out of fuel on long trips because I don't have a fuel gauge for the Main engine I should put one in but Just haven't done it I don't mind switching the outboard powers me good enough to get to a fuel dock for fuel

I'm told they need vinigar enemas often as the cooling passages clog with calcium carbinate much more than other brands.
