Just bought a h26 with a 2006 Yamaha 8hp, high thrust with throttle controls near the starboard stern rail seat. Previous owner just used the tiller, I want to link the two. But alas, can't get the darn thing to pivot. This model has no tiller or tiller controls. Therefore no tiller lock. Can't find a steering friction adjuster referred to in the manual, does not exist. Any experience or ideas?

Phillips Head Screw

Look on the shaft below the motor and controls. There is a phillips head screw that adjusts the friction. If it is completely tightened then the motor will not pivot. Loosen it a bit and the motor should pivot.

Might be a little

thick. If the part of the motor that is facing the stern is 12:00, where is this screw? BTW, this model has noting at the 12:00. I did find a hex head about 6" down the shaft, port side. Looks like a possible.

Just happen to have one too. I'll ck

Mergatroid I believe Tim means that the tension screw is around on the front(6:00?), sort of down from the choke knob. I'll look at mine tonight and post a photo. Tim, We're still in love with your "old" 260. It's been throughly pampered and put through the paces on more than a few trips. Lately it's been resting in the shop since summer lightening season began with a bang. The search is on for a fall dock space. We were getting spoiled at your spot. Hope all is well in your new location. Kelli sends her best. Michael

10mm socket on port side of pivot

Place a socket over the bolt head near the serial number plate at the pivot and you'll be able to tension or release it as necessary. Michael
