This engine doesn't have a generator. It has a small magneto built into the flywheel to provide the spark for the spark plug. That's it.Kind of like your lawnmower, it doesn't generate electricity that you can use.

If an engine that size

has a generator or alternator it's news to me. The smallest outboard I've seen which has the ability to produce electricity beyond the basic needs of the engine is about a 9.5 HP.If I'm wrong on this I'd like to know which brand below 5 HP can generate the juice.Mike

Yes, They do.

As an optional accessory you can install a 12 volt alternator with two leads coming out so you may connect lights or to charge battery. I want to say the cost is approx. $115. Check with your dealer.

Mercury does

I just picked up an older 7.5 horse Mercury that has an alternator.Basically anything with an electric start I would think would be able to recharge the battery,.
