I was the successful bidder on a Yamaha 25II that was seized by the harbor for non payment of moorage. I have been monitoring this forum since I knew I would be bidding on it. Here are my first two questions.

1. The main has a bolt rope not slugs, ie The leading edge of the sail slides up the mast groove instead of having slugs that fit in the groove. Is this stock 25 II set up? The one pic I can find out there is the video of the 25 II sailing off point Loma and it has slugs.

2. Where can I get hold of a manual for the Yanmar ? I have seen portions of the manual on this forum, I think put up by Syntonos

Hi

Welcome to the group

Mine have slugs but i saw some with bolt ropes also already. It works the same way as long as you can slide it in the mast.

As for the Yanmar manual, let me know if you can get it also.
If you need the Y25Mkii manual i can send you a PDF file. Just provide your email.

Y25 sails / manuals

Congrats,
Origional sails are bolt rope - better shape , Slug are installed for easier hoisting /takedown.

There are a number of sites that sell pdf versions of yanmar manuals.

I prefer paper copies because they do not require electricity to view, better if your away from port.

I'd search the net for your manuals, ebay ect. Be sure to correctly identify which engine you have YSE8 (early) or YSM8 (modern). The Yanmar manuals have many pages - to many to scan.

I think I am going to put on slugs on at least one of the mains. To hard to reef with out them.

I found a paper manual for $50

http://shop.torresen.com/ships_store/index.php?p=details&mfc=Yanmar&sku=A0A1001

Is that a normal price?, Seems reasonable to me

Next question

The mast looks like it can pivot aft, sets down over a shoe rather like a cross country ski mount. If I pull the pivot bolt I should be able to lift the mast off?

Thanks for the advice, I should have the boat out of the water and in front of the house on a trailer in a week or so. Looks to be about three in of growth on the bottom, otherwise everything else appears to be in good shape. Took me half an hour to find the battery all the way up in the bow, seems like an unusual location.

for the manual, did u check yanmar website? They have a section for manuals of old engines.
Check the model of yours and try your luck. And print it.

Manuals and Masts

Wander back through the forums--- there is a wealth of information from ALL over the world on our boats -- the owner support has been fantastic over the past few years-quite active.

$50 bucks seem about right for manufactuer technical manuals these days- a picture is worth a thousand words.

Pakele said he dropped his mast to do a rework a while back --- Yamaha manual made it seem like a piece of cake -- not so -- it's still a big stick ! Pivot bolt just helps keep things in control. Since you have it at home -- do it and be done with it, put your mind at ease knowing what you have up there.

That's the manual, I was just successful at downloading.

I am going to lift the mast off before pulling the boat. The harbor has industrial level cranes on the dock for loading gear on fishboats that I can use to pull the mast. I am thinking that I might be able to use the cranes for relaunching the boat, if I make a spreader bar and slings.

Is the 3700 lb displacement in the brochure the designed gross weight or the empty weight?
