Hi there, has anyone moved the main sheet traveler to other position,ie forward, next to the locker near companionway?. If yes,did it have a dramatic efect on weather helm, pointing, boat balance, etc;does it need changing purchase, assuming that the piont of attachment of main sheet to the boom is moved forward?

Suggestions, maybe even some pics, would be much appreciated

Simon

This is interesting .
If I have to do the same , I would lower the traveler to the "floor" of the cockpit .

Hey Simon,
Don't think changing position fore or aft should affect performance. It will surely affect leverage and load on the boom and would require purchase changes for the same "feel" effort to trim the mainsail. Don't know if the glass can support the changes. Harken catalog has lots of rigging diagrams/info on SWL (safe working loads).

Thanks guys,
I had a look at harken formula, somewhere, somebody said that not everybody accepts it,I am one of them, because in 25 kn wind, after which a reefing should be in place, the calculated 'feel' effort is approx 75 kg(/.453 in pounds),but in reality,is less.
Moving the traveler forward approx 0.55m increases this effort with 25%,but I will leave one block in original pos and the second right in top of new pos of the traveler(bit awkward..) to limit it to 12.5%(rule of thumb).
Now is cold and Europe time, when I'm back in Sept I'll get the boat on a hard stand for the annual makeup and I'll give it a try and let you know.

I was hoping someone else has done this job and tell me how much better is,when single-handed,with one hand on the tiller and the other hand, the other side pulling the main sheet, not aalways crosshanded!!

I currently am not running a traveler... I am a "comfort" cruising sailor who doesn't want to give up the center of my cockpit for it (I know, SACRILEGE!!). The mainsheet is mounted to a heavy diamond eye on the top of the transom. I have tried to look at options forward and stern, but have been unable to develop an optional plan. So, I read and hope with interest that someone will come forward with a great traveler option for the 25MKII...
