On our new H-260 we had a factory installed Y-Valve added to the marine head with holding tank since we frequently sail in the Sea of Cortez. But it is impossible to tell which way to turn the valve for which function. The hoses from the 2 discharge sides of the valve go out of sight behind a partition and we can't tell which is which. One comes back and goes to the seacock, but which one? Is the only way to figure it out to do a test with "clean head"? The schematic from Hunter does not cover this.

Detergent

One way is to squirt a bit of detergent into the head when it is in the water and see in which position the bubbles appear. RD

Y-Valve handle should line up with flow direction

Or there should be an arrow...or SOME clue on the y-valve. If not, Rick's suggestion isn't a bad one...put a little detergent in the bowl and watch to see which way the handle's aimed when you see bubbles as you flush. Don't use much! Otherwise, tacking and otherwise finding out why the sea is often called the "bounding main" can leave you with a holding tank full of suds if you send it there first. :)
