Anyone try installing XM radio on a boat? Suspect range might be better than FM stations from shore. Looks like really simple installation. S/V Breathless hunter410

For coastal U.S. sailing...

...it seems like a great cruising partner, especially when combined with cockpit speakers. The mix of excellent news info (e.g. BBC), musical variety, and the unbroken reception strike me as a great counterpoint to listening to local radio and TV stations. Doing the latter gives an interesting, often revealing glimpse into the local area one is visiting...but it would be nice to have that more 'national/int'nat'l alternative, too. Jack

I've been thinking the same thing

I've been thinking the same thing. If you do install one, you might want to get one that can move from car to home to boat. Remember, there's a $10/month fee for the service. Who wants to be paying a monthly fee for radio in the off season? At least with a portable unit you can bring it home or use it in the car. Allen s/v Drambuie Catalina 30, Hull# 632
