I have a 45' sailboat that weighs approximately 25,000 lbs., and I am considering adding an autopilot. What type and/or brand should I be looking for?

We have a WP-30

We have a WP-30 by Simrad on our 46' Morgan that has been doing an excellent job for us...according to the literature it is undersized for our boat but I have no complaints. The wp-30 is a wheel autopilot and you will see the wheel jerk at times as the autopilot compensates for adjustments unlike a hydraulic system. I would however look at your long term use and decide on how the autopiolot will be interfaced with any other instruments, GPS, Chartplotter radar depth and wind....and possibly buy the same "brand" as the rest of you instruments ...Raymarine also makes an excellent system....most of our other instruments are raymarine I have read I can interface the 2 together with a special translating box. But thats down the road.
