I have a Xantrex TC20+ battery charger and I need to add the battery temp sensor accessory since I have changed to AGM batteries that are more sensitive to temperature. This unit has been out of production and I can't find anyone carrying the BTS for it. The BTS for the TC2 unit which replaced the TC20+ is not compatible. Does anyone have any suggestions short of replacing the charger? I would take a used one if anyone is upgrading their system. Thanks.

It is just a temperature switch. Not a sensor that gives the unit battery temp. Once it reaches the threshold temp the switch closes and sends a ground signal to the unit. Pick your max batt temp during charge and buy the switch. Then just wire one wire to the unit and the other to a DC ground (possibly also on the unit)

Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to check this out. Unfortunately all the sites above are offering the 808-0232-01 temp sensor which is for the new generation TC2 charger. Xantrex told me they are not compatible and they don't have any of the older ones in stock, so my options are very limited.

The Xantrex temps sensors I have installed haven been temp sensors not switches. They adjust the voltage output of the charger up and down based on battery temp.

"With the BTS, the charging setpoints are temperature-compensated up to 140 °F (60 °C). If the battery temperature exceeds 140 °F the charger stops charging. The BTS also provides more accurate compensation over a wider range of temperatures than the front panel temperature settings.

For example, with the switch in the HOT position, the charger compensation is equivalent to the BTS compensation at 95 °F (35 °C). At 95 °F, absorption voltage for a gel battery is reduced to 13.8 VDC. At 122 °F (50 °C) the absorption voltage for the same battery is reduced to 13.4 VDC if the BTS is installed. It would still be at 13.8 VDC if you are just using the temperature setting switch."

I agree with MS. The alternator temp sensor is an ON/OFF switch, as far as I know, but the battery temp sensor is graduated.
