I recently replaced my Link 1000, which had failed, with a used Link 2000.
Unfortunately I did not receive an owners manual with it.
I did find an electronic manual on the Xantrex web, which turned out to be applicable to a later model link 2000 and appears incompatible, in some respects, with earlier models. A call to Xantrex support people proved futile as they indicated that ealier documents were not digitized and they had not seen copies for several years, etc., etc.

The problem is that I have a Link 2000 Serial # 560, and the manual I printed out is for serial #s above 8500. I have been unable to set up the unit for my particular battery bank because one of the switches , the fourth switch on lower right hand, used in the setup process is marked "CHG Eff Ambient Temp", rather than "Time Function", as depicted and used in the Owners Manual for setup. Using the renamed switch, asuming them as interchangeable, has not produced the results specified in the manual.

Does any one have an older owners manual or knowledge about the setup process for the older Link 2000 Monitor that they can share with me? It would be appreciated.

I have an 11 year old Link 2000. I don't know if its manual can help you for it is on the boat. I will not be at the boat this month. When I get out there I'll look to see if the fourth switch is or is not the same as your's.

I had a discussion recently with a skipper on the sailnet.com message board. He had the same earlier version of the Link 2000 that you describe. His unit did not have the function button on the lower right.

After extensive discussions, we couldn't find anyone who had your older unit.

I recommend doing some serious Google, Ask, Bing research to find someone "out there" who may have your unit and the manual for it. As far as I could tell, even Xantrex doesn't have it under "Discontinued Units" on their website. Since Xantrex purchased Cruising Equipment, there's no one at Xantrex who has a clue. You might want to try sailnet again to see if that skipper ever found one, and also try overseas, like this: http://www.ybw.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=13

If you do find one, it would be great to post it here. Many of us have had detailed discussions about the Link 2000 and have tried to help in many ways. This would be a new one.

Sorry I couldn't help any more than this.

All the best of luck.

Just happen to have my Link 2000 manual on the nightstand for some winter reading. I know, really sad. But my Link 2000 has five switches on the bottom row with the far right being "TIME Function". From left to right as you view: Setup, Volts, Amps, A Hrs, Time. If you think this might be yours maybe I can answer a specific question or two.

Ed,
Your unit is apparently the newer version than mine. As tough as it may seem, I wish I also had a copy of my owners manual on my bedstand!!!!
Thanks,
John

Don't want to rain on your parade but Zantrex does not support the link 2000. Actually Zantrex support is very poor. I have a Link 2000 that died. I have moved on to Victron.

Rick's right, but if you have one and want to use it, why not try to find the manual?

If you do get it working, please be aware of what we call "The Gotcha Factor" which applies whether or not you use a Freedom combined inverter/charger or choose to operate your charger manually by reading the output amperages: http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,4922.0.html

I finally looked at the cruising equipment link I provided and it doesn't work, sorry about that, but it looks like when ce went out of business their website information and all the goodies disappeared.

Cruising Equipment was the original manufacturer of all the "LINK" series monitors. If memory serves me correctly they were then sold or became Heart Interface then Xantrex bought Heart Interface.

Xantrex subsequently discontinued the historically "buggy" original Link series monitors; Link 10, Link 20, Link 2000 etc. etc. in favor of the more reliable units built in the Netherlands by TBS Electronics.

TBS used to also make the battery monitors for Victron. When Xantrex began importing the first TBS made unit, which they called the XBM (Xantrex Battery Monitor), Victron left TBS and found a new supplier to build their units.

The Xantrex XBM and the new Link-Lite and Link-Pro monitors are made by TBS electronics for Xantrex and share nothing with the older Link series. They are very, very reliable compared to the original Cruising Equipment models.

Those are handy and useful links, MS, but the trick is that he has a unit serial number that is lower than those that the manual covers, and the buttons are different, hence his question.

Can't help you there. If the unit is that old it is probably ready for the recycling bin, especially if you can't find a manual. The early Cruising Equipment stuff was rather buggy but they started a good thing! Heart Interface helped work out the bugs and then Xantrex tried to pick up and continue on. They eventually gave up and went with TBS monitors instead. In my experience TBS/Xantrex monitors have been very reliable comparably speaking to the older "Link" stuff.

Thanks for all the info. It'll be particularly helpful if/when I have to give up the ghost on this unit. The more info. I receive the less confidence I have, but why throw money away, especially after all the effort required for a neat installation on my boat????.

John, I have the exact same Link 2000 - the lower right button is labeled CHG EFF Ambient Temp. Better yet, I have the manual for this unit. I will scan the manual and post after I get off work today.

Phantomsailor,
Great news. Thanks for the response and the offer to scan the document. I'll then be able to determine whether I'm in good shape or in the market for a new controller.
Regards,
John

I'd be interested in a copy, too. We run into this question more often than you'd think.

Thanks,

Stu
