My 1990 Hunter 33.5, S/V Elena Lua, is in the photo attached...the one in the lower left up against the Blue Heron Bridge that crosses the Intracoastal Waterway over to Singer Island in West Palm Beach. This photo and several others were featured on the Weather Channel's website and many local TV stations here locally. Many thanks to Tow Boat US for their quick response in recovering my boat yesterday. They hired a barge and crane to pick me up off the beach and floated me in deep water with a tow to dry dock. 3 other boats in that photo were good sailing friends of mine... Catalina 27 - Totaled Aloha 28 - no damage and back on the mooring afloat Hunter 30 - Totaled Another friend of mine has an Islander Freeport 36 that survived on the mooring only hanging on a thread of the last of 3 anchors. His has water damage inside. Damages will be covered by insurance and I'm thankful that she still floats.

Ouch!

That must have torn your heart out to see her like this. Hope she's repairable and that you get underway soon again. Assume she was on a mooring? Hope you made out OK in other ways from these miserable storms. Rick D>

saw it

I saw that picture in the paper and pointed out to my wife that it was a Hunter 33.5 just like ours. Little did I know that it was a HOWer. Hope everything turns out OK. I guess Hunters are tougher than their detractors think!

Brent...

didn't you keep your boat on a moorring off Singer Island? If so, did you have to leave the mooring and anchor out? Hope things work out ok for you and the others.

What would you do different??????

I keep my 1978 H30 "Serenity" on a mooring in front of my house, and was woundering how she would far in a storm. Where all of the boat on anchor on moored. Glad to see the "Elena Lua" will be able to feel the wind in her sails again. Tony

Elena Lua in the boat yard now...

Well I finally got her up on the hard at Cracker Boy Boat Works in Riviera Beach...engine still runs, but I didn't have steering, so TowBoat US took me there today. My boat has been out on a mooring for 3 years there...I had 3 FP&L guy wire screw anchors in the ground and 2 danforths and one bruce anchors in preparation for Frances. I figure I got tangled with other anchor lines during the storm and early Sunday morning with the wind in the Southwest she drifted up on the sand against the bridge. I feel better now that she is up and waiting for repairs. Insurance company will be here to evaluate next week. Thanks for all your thoughts. Capn' Brent S/V Elena Lua 1990 Hunter 33.5
