I have my WP30 installed and I am very pleased with its operation. Holds simple compass coarse very well, but I also want to add a GPS to the setup. I did ask this question on the Hunter midsize boats section, but got only two responses. Each suggested a different unit and I have looked at both as well as others, but I'm still confused over all the choices. I'm really interested in hearing from others what their experiences are with different makes and models. Is color worth the difference in price? Is anyone convinced they made the best choice? Is anyone so unhappy that they feel it is a waste of money? Thought I would pose this on "Ask All Sailors" hoping to get more feed back. Thank you to all responders.

GPS

I would recomend a Garmin GPS. I sell marine electronics and have a choice if what I can buy, and I have a Garmin. The non-color versions are better the color tend to wash in the sun unless you spend $2000+ for the 2006c or 2010c. I like the 176, it uses a chip, small yet good sized screen, all the goodies, Blue chart chip, and can be hard wired to your system. The Blue chart chip system is the least expensive on the market right now, compared with c-map and others, giving you more area for your dollar. Garmin's menu is easy to use nothing to remember. The 182 is very nice also all the same features, but bigger screen and more money. Check out Garmin's web site, www.Garmin.con. Oh, they have the best support of any in the Biz. Good Luck. Ken

I just bought a Garmin 168...

...and I'm very happy with it. Also considered the Lowrance LMS-240. I chose Garmin for the reasons the previous poster (Ken) listed. I have the Blue Chart software (CD/ serial interface vice chip) and it looks great too. I don't have an autopilot.

Garmin 168

I also have the Garmin 168. The chip is a great feature and I have used it from Texas to Alabama along the Gulf Coast and inland. I have been very pleased.
