Roger: I wondered what these units looked like inside. Did you or are you returning yours to the factory for their fix? I understand that if the unit is under warranty, the fix and new belt is free. If not then there is a charge. The fix includes a fix to the clutch assembly and new belt. Our clutch does not release fully all the time. I am going to send it in during the off season for a check up and the new belt.

Just replacing the belt

My unit is approaching its third anniversary so warantees are out. My clutch seems to work fine, but it seems to me that the threads of the reinforcing belts are subject to unusual wear. Not sure if that's a design fault or because I am at the upper limit of their stated capacity (a Hunter 37 - about 16k lbs or so). These belts costs around $60 -$70 from Simrad so I am planning to re-use the belt by cutting out the damaged thread - Its possible the thread (which was on the edge of the belt), wore because of a rubbing action and not a tearing action. If thats true then I may get away re-using it. Anyway, this is the second time this has happened, the first time Simrad covered the belt under the warantee. I fix it myself and have become adept at putting the pieces back together. Roger Destiny - Hunter 37 "Committing solecisms that society will never pardon"

Roger contact them.

Roger: You may want to contact them. They have a deal on this fix. I think that they will do the entire thing for the price of the belt.

Replacing Belts Easy

I had a belt break on my Navico WP30. When I finally got a hold of the techs at Simrad, I was able to buy a belt and the new clutch parts for about $28 if I remember right. I bought two kits since the kit was cheaper than the old Navico belt. Easy to install and happy so far after about 40 hours of use.

Belt is $60

I called Simrad in Washington. The clutch kit is $91 and the belt is $60 ( I have no warantee). So, I will try cleaning up the belt and reusing. Probably rotating it, and repositioning where the belt makes contact with the gear/clutch should "extend" its life somewhat.
