WP 32 autopilot - problem resetting compass

I have used a WP 32 autopilot for the last year. This weekend it wouldn't stay on course an I couldn't reset the compass. I called Simrad and they said the compass probably has a problem - it is under warranty - but they have a 4-6 week turn-around time. Has anyone else had a problem resetting the compass and found another solution? Thanks

What was it doing specifically?

And how do you know it's the compass? Is it making erratic turns, just off the mark slightly or what? And, what boat are you using it on? I've used mine extensively and when she goes off it's been the belt every time. On my 37.5 the belt seems to wear quickly.

following retting procedure

Th problem definitely lies in the compass - there is a specific procedure for setting the compass - but this routine fails each time I try it.

Are the reset procedures...

the same as the calibration procedures?

WP Compass Issues

Bill - I've been there and done that. The compass on my WP30 went out last year and I was not able to reset it per the procedure. Actually, following the procedure seemed to make it worse if anything. That is probably the one downside to the WP with its integrated compass. Anyway, mine was warrantied as well, and I got it back pretty quickly. Now, I did send it in during off-season, but was in the 2-4 week turnaround time. I did find that their technical and customer service folks were very friendly and helpful. Good luck to you. T J
